LEAP!

The yearly calendar at Helsinki Think Company is quite packed with events for University students, eager to test their entrepreneurial wings. You can come to our coworking venues and be inspired for an evening or test your problem-solving skills at a Mini Challenge weekend. If you dare, you can apply as an individual and start developing a brand new concept with strangers in 4UNI. After that, Think Company can offer a chance to develop that idea further with your early-stage startup in a bootcamp.

But what happens after that? What if our teams could validate their concept internationally and be more encouraged to scale? With this thought two board members at Helsinki Think Company, took a leap.

Wanting to find like-minded actors in the Nordics, we reached out to Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship (CSE) and Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES). We discovered the two organizations to have a similar need to provide support in internationalization for teams being born in their program. The synergy was tangible. The idea for LEAP, the international incubator, was born.

What if our teams could validate their concept internationally and be more encouraged to scale?

Last Friday the LEAP team got together in Copenhagen for the first time. This fantastic city has much to offer for both business and pleasure. A buzzing startup scene with cool co-working hubs makes it great for fresh teams. Cute coffee places, delicious brunch at Kalaset and a vibrant Meat Packing District provide a fun get-away after a long day of work.

So you think you and your startup are ready to test the Danish and Swedish markets? Stay tuned, as the three partners continue preparing the program. In May 2017, nine chosen teams take the LEAP.

What’s LEAP?

  • Three teams per country
  • Three 3-day bootcamps
  • Three cities – Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen

All wonderful things come in three’s.  LEAP is a platform for early-stage internationalization of social impact ventures. It bridges the gaps between Nordic startup ecosystems. It will improve the skills of the nine teams in making international market entries, developing their business concept as well as enhancing teamwork, communication and solution-oriented problem-solving in an interdisciplinary, international environment. All the teams need to have is a potential and scalable business idea in an early stage, and a dedicated team looking to make an impact.

Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship (CSE)

After it was founded in 2008, more than 500 companies have started up from CSE. CSE is today the largest student incubator in Denmark, offering young entrepreneurs a free co-working space, free business coaching, mentors, workshops, legal and accounting advice. The CSE is placed at the Copenhagen Business School (CBS), which is among the leading universities within entrepreneurship research and has entrepreneurship as a strategic focus. CSE is the largest student incubator in Denmark, and collaborates with both The Danish Technical University (DTU) The University of Copenhagen (KU) and other universities in Denmark, to promote entrepreneurship.

Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES)

SSES provides education, training and inspiration in applied interdisciplinary entrepreneurship to its five member universities in Stockholm, Karolinska Institutet (KI), the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), Stockholm University (SU) and the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack), as well as alumni in the broader entrepreneurship ecosystem. SSES is proud to have notable alumni that include the founders of Klarna, Soundcloud, iZettle, Universal Avenue and thousands of other companies since our inception in 1998.
