Q: What is Helsinki Think Company? A company?
A: Ok, bear with us. We’re called Helsinki Think Company, but we don’t do business in the traditional sense. We are a co-working space and a community. Our passion is to bring people together and make stuff happen here and now.
Q: So why the Company?
A: We believe there’s a lot of potential and knowledge in the University of Helsinki and the world surrounding it. That potential needs different ways and tools to reach out. Entrepreneurial action is one way. Entrepreneurship as a tool needs to be an easier one to grab for the people in the University as well as in the surrounding community. And that’s why we’re here.
Q: Where exactly is here?
A: There are two physical locations; one in Kaisaniemi on Vuorikatu 5 and one in the Viikki-campus, on Latokartanonkaari 3. We also have a pop up-based space at Meilahti campus.
Q: When is it open?
A: On Vuorikatu 5 we’re open Mon-Fri from 10 till 18. The Viikki ThinkCo is open Mon-Fri from 10 till 17.
Q: What happens there?
A: Co-working, coffee drinking, high-fiving, workshops around interesting topics, bootcamps, courses and events. People meet people and learn new stuff about each other, the world and themselves. Come check it out: pop by for one of our events and let’s talk more.
Q: Who is it for?
A: Anybody curious and open-minded, ready to peek outside the box. You can be a researcher, a student, a teacher, an entrepreneur or something completely different. A dog? We’ve heard dog’s make people smile so why not!
Q: Do I need to be in the University of Helsinki?
A: No. To create something multidiciplinary and truly new, you can’t draw too many lines. People are amazing no matter where they study or work.
Q: What does it cost?
A: Using the space for co-working and event’s doesn’t cost you money. However we expect you to bring something to the community in return. Say hi to people you don’t know, smile, be considerate. Don’t be afraid to draw on walls (drawable walls), move a table to a better place. Then wash your own coffee cup and organize the space to it’s original condition after using it. Most importantly, bring in your enthusiasm and energy.
Q: Who owns the space?
A: Helsinki Think Company is funded by the University of Helsinki and the city of Helsinki.
Q: I’m really excited about this, how can I get involved?
A: Physical presence is required. So just come inside, a member of the host-team is always there and ready to talk. Come to our events, get to know people, join the association.
Q: I’m having a meeting of 5-10 people, can I reserve a space for it?
Q: Do I need to have a business idea to come in?
A: No you don’t. Also we will not throw you out if you have one. But for coming in and getting involved, curiosity is all you really need.
